COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. – A 10-year-old child died after a crash on US 41 near State Road 29 in Collier County Sunday afternoon.
The crash happened around 3:20 p.m. when a 59-year-old Naples woman driving a sedan crossed over into oncoming traffic and hit another car head-on, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The driver of the other car, a 52-year-old Naples man, was traveling with his family, a 47-year-old woman, a 10-year-old girl, and a 6-year-old boy.
Troopers said everyone involved in the crash was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital where the 10-year-old girl was later pronounced dead.
The parents and 6-year-old brother of the girl along with the other driver were seriously injured, investigators said.
“You are expected to be alert, be focused, be responsible, be law-abiding of all traffic laws because there are moms and dads with little kids in the backseat traveling the other way,” said Lt. Greg Bueno with Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP is continuing to investigate the crash.
